“Don’t kill her.”

A voice cut through my sleep.

My eyes snapped open.

It wasn’t normal - too sharp, too powerful like thunder tearing through the silence of the lonely mansion.

“Don’t go near her. Stay away from her.”

Fear crawled into my chest, wrapping around my ribs. Before I could move, the lights flickered violently and then -

Darkness.

Complete. Suffocating.

“If I see you near her again,” the voice echoed once more, deeper now, colder, “the consequences won’t be good for you.”

Thunder exploded outside as rain began to pour, wild and relentless, as if the storm itself obeyed him.

“Wh...who is this?” I whispered, forcing myself off the bed, my legs shaking.

No answer.

Only the sound of rain.

I moved toward the door, every step heavy, my heartbeat deafening my hand trembling as I pulled the handle. I opened it-

And froze.

The corridor stood empty.

No one.

Just darkness stretching endlessly ahead. Sweat trickled down my forehead. The air felt wrong thick, watching, breathing with me.

Then -

Footsteps.

Slow. Measured.

I turned toward the sound just as lightning flashed.

For a single heartbeat, the corridor lit up.

And I saw it.

A shadow stood there.

Still. Watching me. Motionless

For one terrifying second, my heart stopped.

“Who… who’s there?” I asked, my voice barely a breath.

Silence.

I stepped back, my body trembling, and moved toward the end of the corridor. The darkness deepened, swallowing everything. My hands shook. My lungs burned.

And then -

Hot breath brushed my neck.

I gasped, frozen in place.

A voice slid into my ear, low and intimate, sending a shiver straight down my spine.

“Are you lost, little dove…?”
